What IS an IRS Enrolled Agent?

At Genovations Accounting, we talk a lot about our use of IRS Enrolled Agents to handle your tax returns…but just what is an IRS Enrolled Agent?

Put simply:

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax professional federally licensed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to assist individuals, businesses, and organizations with tax planning, preparation, and representation during IRS audits and appeals.

To be an EA, an individual must pass a comprehensive three-part examination called the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) that covers individual tax, business tax, and representation. After certification, they are held to strict ethical and continued education standards, so you know you’re dealing with a pro.

What’s more, EAs are not limited to practicing in a specific state, as their authorization is federal, which allows them to represent clients nationwide through public accounting firms, tax preparation offices, or even as independent tax consultants.

Conclusion

Suffice to say, if you’re needing help with your taxes, and you don’t feel confident in your ability to handle them or even if you just have a few questions, an IRS Enrolled Agent like one of our staff is good to have in your corner.

Don’t stress your success.
